CALL FOR CURATORIAL RESIDENTS 2012-13
221A Artist Run Centre

221A Artist Run Centre is seeking project proposals from curators commencing late 2012. The organization has implemented the curatorial residencies program to encourage a diversity of curatorial approaches to this nascent interdisciplinary field. Emerging and professional curators and curatorial collectives are encouraged to submit which may include recent graduates and practicing artists, designers and architects. Projects may include exhibitions, performances, publications, talks or workshops. Proposals should discuss a viewpoint, theory, or approach that the project hopes to foster as well as include its relation to the organizations mandate.
Selected candidates will be expected to work with the Executive Director to research, plan and execute the project. In addition, selected curators are expected to sit on the Curatorial Committee for a minimum one-year term (meeting monthly) to offer feedback to other curatorial residents and the overall program.
Proposal Guidelines
Applicants must submit a digital proposal (hello@221a.ca) including the following:
- a one-page project proposal, describing the curatorial project and its relationship to the mandate of the organization
- a current CV of each of the key contributors (maximum 3 pages each)
- related images/texts as required (pdf or jpegs, max. 15 images, or up to 10 min. of video)
Proposals are intended to provide the projects overall intention and background and are only expected to include pertinent details. Applicants who intend on proposing self-curated projects (the practice of the Artist-Curator) must describe the reasoning behind this approach. Further research and development of the project is expected to upon selection.
Funding
221A Artist Run Centre is a non-profit organization funded through self-generated income, private donors, foundations and government grants. All projects are funded through the organizations operating budget as well as through project-based grants. All projects must pay minimum CARFAC fees to artists, designers, technicians, writers, and curators.Deadline:

Artist Opportunities - Provincial
Call for Qualifications: Public Art: “Balance”
Westminster Savings Credit Union (224 Street & Lougheed Highway)
Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada
Budget: $40,000
Submission Deadline: January 30, 2012
The theme for the artwork will be ‘Balance’ as it applies to all aspects of our lives. The selected work(s) will be placed in the two planters situated on either side of the corner. There is potential for electrical access nearby. A scale drawing of the site is available upon request. This Call for Qualifications provides an exciting opportunity for a new piece of public art for all to enjoy. The District of Maple Ridge will ultimately own the title and bear the responsibility for maintaining the artwork. The anticipated completion date for the project will be June 30, 2012.
Contents of package to be submitted:
- Cover letter including a description of artist’s approach
- Current résumé
- 3 – 10 electronic images of completed projects
Shortlisted artists will receive an honorarium of up to $750 to create a maquette or drawings of the proposed project.

Capstone Residential Development

Expressions of Interest are being accepted from artists or artist teams to design and integrate site specific art at the Capstone residential development at 135 West 2nd Street in North Vancouver, the last vacant property to be developed next to Lower Lonsdale’s beautiful Jack Loucks Court. The Capstone property was once home to Marine Electric, which was known in the marine industry for several notable inventions. For this reason, the public art component of this development is encouraged to be symbolic of the progression and innovation of this area.

Moose Jaw Trail Public Art & Heritage Interpretive Project

The City of Saskatoon is seeking “Requests for Qualifications” from an artist/designer team for the creation, and implementation of an interpretive collection including commemorative artworks and interpretive panels. We are ideally seeking a team approach to this project but individuals may apply for any component but must indicate a willingness to work with others to form a team. There are three components to the project:
1. Commemorative Feature
2. Interpretive Panels
3. Themed art installationThe objective of this project is to commemorate and interpret the role and significance of the Moose Jaw Trail in Saskatoon’s heritage. The Moose Jaw Trail is recognized as a “significant historic and natural area worthy of preservation”.

The City of Aberdeen, WA & Grays Harbor Community Foundation
Simpson Triangle

The City of Aberdeen, WA, in cooperation with the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, is seeking an artist to create a significant three-dimensional artwork for the Simpson Triangle, a highly traveled site between the business districts of Aberdeen and Hoquiam, WA. The artwork will honor the legacy of a local family and inspire both generosity and commitment to community in local residents and those that pass through the City.
The artwork will be of a scale and level of detail to support both motorist drive-by and up-close pedestrian viewing experiences, and will incorporate architectural sandstone blocks of local significance as a re-use material. The artist for this commission will be selected through an open call process, with the final artwork decided on the basis of paid, competitive proposals.
4Culture Public Art is managing the artist selection process, final design development and artwork implementation process for this artwork opportunity.

OPEN CALL 2010 for artists in residency

Applications are now being accepted for the 2010 at La Macina di San Cresci. Located above Greve, in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany, between two great cities of the Renaissance: Florence & Siena. Disciplines: visual art, photography, sculpture, painting, literature
The artist residency program provides the ideal combination of living and working in a setting of truly inspirational beauty, consisting of sojourning from 7 to 90 days. This period covers a program based on the personal project proposal presented. A possible time extension is subject to availability. Artists with a special interesting project may also have a public event that offers a venue to test their ideas in dialogue with other artists and the general public. Help will be given from La Macina di San Cresci staff to organize a local exhibition on a theme related to their Residency project. An archive of activities is scheduled to be published during the year. It is intended to be representative of the various experiences hosted and produced using photos and texts of artists and events.
Residencies are available between 1st January and 31th December 2010.
The Macina di San Cresci is member of RES ARTIS, the International Association of Residential Arts Centre, established in the Netherlands in 1993. It is the largest existing network of artist residency programs numbering over 200 members drawn from more than 40 countries.
