Orpheum Annex
823 Seymour Street, 2nd floor
The Orpheum Annex is situated on the site of the Capitol 6 Cinemas built in the early 1970s, which in turn sat on the site of the original Capitol Theatre, a vaudeville and moving picture palace built in the 1920s in the ornate style popular in that era.
The Annex is an acoustically-superior space that can easily and quickly be converted from a flat-floor suitable for cabarets, receptions, exhibitions or rehearsals to a theatre performance space with tiered seating for 193 for plays, dance performances, recitals, chamber music and mid-sized ensembles.
The Orpheum Annex is the result of a Cultural Amenity Bonus Award to Wall Financial, the developer of the Annex and the new VSO School of Music in the same building on Seymour Street. Credit goes to Bingham Hill Architects for its care and willingness to listen and respond appropriately to the needs of the arts community.
The Orpheum Annex is owned and operated by the City of Vancouver and is part of Vancouver Civic Theatres which manages the Orpheum, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the Vancouver Playhouse.
