If we can develop and design streets so that they are wonderful, fulfilling places to be—community-building places, attractive for all people—then we will have successfully designed about one-third of the city.

Since 2002, the City of Vancouver and a team of stakeholders and consultants have been involved in a redesign project for Granville Street. The redesign of Granville Street, from Drake Street to Cordova Street, responds to the need to enhance the transit, pedestrian movement, and vitality of the street, re-establishing it as one of downtown’s most important streets.

In early 2006, four design concepts for Granville Street were taken through technical analysis and presented to stakeholders and the general public for feedback. All findings were summarized into a policy report (Downloadable PDFPDF) and considered before Council on April 18, 2006. Of the four concepts, Council approved the Modified Enhanced Existing Option. Currently, the project’s team is working with stakeholders to refine the conceptual and technical components of the approved design. In January 2008, an open house took place to gather further feedback and comments from the public.
