“Check Back” Open House: Series 4 (November 2 and 4, 2006)

A “Check-Back” open house series was hosted in November 2006 as a final opportunity for the community to review new policy recommendations characterizing the future mix of uses and built form on the Oakridge Centre site before the draft policies are brought forward to City Council for approval. The Open House included presentation boards which summarized changes made to the draft Policy Statement based on community feedback and input from both City staff and the site owners. Updates on the adjacent sites on 41st Avenue and Cambie Street were also on display, based on comments and survey results from the July Open Houses and workshop. Another survey was distributed at the Open House as an opportunity to comment on the proposed policies for the Oakridge area. Results can be viewed by opening the following links.

“Follow Up” Workshop: July 15, 2006

A “Follow-Up Workshop” was hosted after the Open Houses as an opportunity for small groups of people to discuss their interests in depth with staff on the revised draft Oakridge Centre Concept Plan, draft Oakridge Centre Planning Policies and options for the nearby properties on Cambie Street and 41st Avenue. The workshop was facilitated by City staff. Representatives from Oakridge Centre also participated in answering questions.

Open House: Series 3 (July 13 and 14, 2006)

The third open house series has just been completed on July 13th and 14th, 2006. The Open House gave an opportunity for the community to review and comment on the revised draft Oakridge Centre Concept Plan for the Oakridge mall site and proposed draft Oakridge Centre Planning Policy and present options for nearby properties on Cambie Street and 41st Avenue. Comment form results are being summarized and will be available on-line in August. The open house presentation boards can be viewed by clicking on the following links:

Youth Workshops

We encourage broad participation from all parts of the community, including young people. On November 21st, The City of Vancouver’s Oakridge Policy Planning Team and the proponents hosted three 80 minute youth workshops at Churchill Secondary. We wanted to provide an opportunity for youth to share their ideas on the future redevelopment of Oakridge Centre. Topics explored included Parks and Community Facilities, Housing, Retail and Transit and Access. The workshop transcripts and worksheets can be viewed by clicking on the following links.

Open Houses: Series 1 (March 10 and 12, 2005)

Oakridge Centre Policy Planning Program, Open House Series 1

On March 10th and 12th, 2005, the City hosted public open houses at the Oakridge Centre Mall Auditorium to present planning ideas and opportunities for the future of the Oakridge Centre site. Over 1,200 invitations (with Chinese language translation) were sent to surrounding property owners, and ads notifying of the open houses were placed in the Vancouver Courier (East and West), Ming Pao, Sing Tao, The South Asian Link, and The Indo-Canadian Voice newspapers.

Over 200 neighbouring residents and business owners attended the open houses, and 70 comment sheets with people’s suggestions have been returned. A 2-page summary and a complete compilation of people’s comments can be viewed by clicking on the following links:

Public input and information provided at this stage will be used to guide future development concepts for Oakridge Centre. The public will be invited to comment on these draft concepts in June 2005.

Focus Group Workshops

In December 2004 and January 2005, the City hosted a series of workshops with local residents and business owners who had been active in previous Oakridge planning programs. Participants were asked what changes they might like to see on the site over the next 20 years. With this initial information, a consultant engaged by the City is beginning to draft a series of future development concepts for public review and discussion.
