Noise Control

Construction

As Vancouver grows and evolves, it is inevitable that older buildings are demolished and replaced with new homes, high rise office or residential buildings and other complex multi-use buildings and so forth. These changes contribute to an increasingly vibrant liveable city.

Construction is however, associated with noise - the pounding of jackhammers, steel dropping onto hard concrete, backup beepers from the trucks, etc.

There are constraints to what local government can do to protect citizens from urban noise exposure. But in order to strike a balance between development and construction noise, there are regulations in place to limit the hours of excessive noise during construction time. For further information, view the construction info sheet PDF(27kb).
