Cambie Works Yard Photographic Project

The Cambie Works Yard Photographic Project is the first in a series of artworks commissioned by the Public Art Program for the new City works yard in False Creek Flats. Most of the equipment and crews currently occupying the 92 year old Cambie Yard will move to the new site in the fall of 2003.

Artist Carol Sawyer collaborated with Cambie Yard staff to document the old yard from the perspective of those who work there. Staff produced over 600 photographs of Yard buildings, people, and activities. Selected images were printed by the Sign Shop, and are installed until November 2003 on the Cambie Yard fence along the south False Creek seawall, just east of the Cambie Street Bridge.

Cambie Picture Cycle Web Site Project

Carol Sawyer selected images from the Cambie Photo Project and works yard archives to be used to create three different Flash movies. Community Services webmaster Dan Campbell worked with a Flash template created by artists Eric Deis and David MacWilliam to present these images in a constantly re-cycling grid format. The free Adobe Flash Player is required in order for the Flash movies to run.

Click on one of the three images below to open Cambie Picture Cycle. Wait until downloading is complete and the cycling has reached a consistent speed. It will take approximately 2 minutes with a 56K dial-up connection for the download to complete. Clicking on a specific facet will slowly reveal the full image. Clicking on the image again will restart the cycling.
