Arbutus Centre Policy Planning Program

December 12, 2010 - The City is currently processing a rezoning application for the Arbutus Shopping Centre site.

The Arbutus Centre Policy Statement was approved by City Council on July 29, 2008. Read the staff report and policy document (Downloadable PDFPDF, 1.96MB).

What is This Project?

The purpose of this planning program is to create policies that further refine the Community Vision for and guide any re-development of the Arbutus Village Shopping Centre site.

In May 2007, City Council approved a joint public policy process, funded by the Shopping Centre owners, to engage the community in how this property can become a stronger part of the neighbourhood.

This policy process extends the discussion begun in the Vision process to a more site specific level. The study will consider ways to achieve the array of Vision policies relevant to the site and explore advantages of different approaches to built form, amenities, access and circulation, and parking strategies for the site.

This process will result in a policy report back to Council that will assess whether a basis for future redevelopment may be recommended and, if so, on what basis it might be supported.

This policy review is not a rezoning, however if approved, it will provide a basis for assessing future rezoning and development proposals for Arbutus Centre.
