1. Updates from individuals/groups
(Please be advised that I was not able to keep up with all the information/discussion being presented).
A. Mountainview Group (Tom Little / Sharole Tylor)
- Pancake breakfast took place to celebrate their one year anniversary - the Mountainview group won a CBC contest and the breakfast/street party was broadcast on CBC - due to the tragedy on September 11, the breakfast/street party became a fundraiser/tribute to the tragedy-the Lions club cooked breakfast - $500 was raised and donated to the WTC Relief fund-approximately 500 people showed up for the event.
B. Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House (Donna Chang)
- Neighbourhood Small Grants was again a success; the project will be presented with the Vancouver Foundation in a North American Foundations Conference to the Neighbourhood Small Grants Network; the process is underway for the Year 2002 Neighbourhood Small Grants Project.
C. Ken Baker - Long time City Plan participant.
D. Margaret Marquardt - 22nd Dumfries Street Festival was a success.
E. Elizabeth Jang - Successful event for Kingcrest Park.
F. Paul Calderhead - Kensington Community Centre will hold their AGM on October 24th.
G. Friends of Glen Park (Gerry Longson)
- Secured playground funding of $35,000 from the Vancouver Park Board.
H. Mountainview Group (Sharole)
- Building community bulletin boards in neighbourhoods.
2. Kingcrest Park
- Working to get on municipal capital plan.
- Working with Kensington Community Centre.
- Looking for endorsement from City Plan group.
- There was a request to include Brewer's Park as part of the application for capital development.
Motion: Agreement to support the application for capital development funds for Kingcrest Park. All agreed.
(A copy of "A Brief Review of Kingcrest Park Improvement Proposal" submitted to the Kensington Community Centre Association Board on Sept. 19th could contact Elisabeth Jang).
- Glen Park is also submitting a request for capital development.
3. Knight Street Study
- A consultant has been hired to work on the study (Rob Hodgin).
- Michael White will be the planner working with the consultant.
- Study should be complete by mid November.
(Anyone interested in more information could contact Cathy Buckham at catherine_buckham@city.vancouver.bc.ca).
4. City of Vancouver Street Furniture and Amenity Program
- City is looking for a coordinated look.
- The report will be presented at the October 18th council meeting.
5. Kingsway/Knight old Safeway site)
- Unfortunately, Aragon Development (I am not sure of the correct spelling) has now rescinded its consideration to develop on the Kingsway and Knight old Safeway site. The owner, Patrick Ho turned down Aragon's request for a 90 day extension.
- The City Plan group had a lively discussion on necessary tactics to draw some attention to the Kingsway and Knight site. There was the talk of "mass rallys", traffic stopping, and media attention getting tactics.
- There was a suggestion that the City Plan group needs to write to Council (or even storm a council meeting) to let the City Council know that this is an urgent matter and that there is a need to have the City of Vancouver take the lead in the development of the Kingsway/Knight site.
- There was an agreement that the City of Vancouver had an opportunity to use the Kingsway/Knight site to follow through on the Community Vision recommendation to develop a neighbourhood hub.

- Met with cultural planner to discuss a public art project.
- McKenzie School will receive funding to be part of Windsor Way.
9. 22nd/Commercial (Selkirk School)
