Meeting Notes

Thursday, October 21st, 2004
Renfrew Community Centre
7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Attendees: Louise Van Grol, Jack Spibey, Susan Zaric, Elaine
Lockhart, Heather Weber , Julie Cheng , Yung-Kai Yip, Sui Ling Wong, Rob
Allen , Nancy Reynolds (Park Board), Wesley Joe (CityPlans)
1) September meeting notes:
- A correction was noted in the transportation update section. On the
third line, 'crossing at Nootka & 15th' should be 'crossing at
Nootka and 25th'.
2) Translation and Child care Services:
- There is continual support for the invitation/reminder letters and
the CityPlan committee meetings to be translated and to provide child
care. Request for the services are by call back and at least two days
before the meeting. Translation of the letter is about $40. Unless there
are volunteers to translate at the meeting, the cost is about $25 per
hour.
3) Updates from Groups and Subcommittees
Transportation
- The sub-committee will be meeting with Chris Taulu of the Collingwood
Community Policing Centre (CPC) on Oct 26th Tuesday at Collingwood Neighbourhood
House to discuss the traffic issues that have been identified earlier.
Invitations of City Transportation Engineers to future meetings will
also be discussed.
Green Streets
- Heather reported that Falaise Park will be undergoing some improvements
to reflect the fact that Still Creek runs through the park. There will
be a meeting set for January 2005.
- Heather also reported a draft proposal being created to be submitted
for the 2006-8 Capital Plan for enhancements to Renfrew Park.
- Heather updated the group about a greening project involving Norquay
and Nootka elementary schools. The project has two parts, one being
greening around the schools and secondly, providing a green link between
the two schools along Renfrew Ravine.
Youth
- Youths at Windermere's Off Ramp group in trying to keep cars from
idling are thinking of greening an area where many of the cars are parked
and idling around the school. They would also like to green 27th Avenue
for the school to Renfrew Ravine.
Action: Wesley to call Julie of the Green
Streets sub-committee to set up a meeting where local groups with greening
projects can inform and share ideas with each other. Groups are to include
the Windermere Youths and the Nootka and Norquay elementary schools.
4) 'Making Meetings Better' workshop
- Wesley passed out an information flyer about a workshop that city
has organized for CityPlan members. Eli Mina, the consultant will help
to provide the attendees with the skills to have more effective meetings.
The workshop is free and will be on Sunday afternoon, November 21st
at the Kensington Community Centre.
5) Communications
- Rob would like the meeting notes to be forwarded to the members earlier
so there will be time to read them before the meetings.
- ListServe as a communication tool will be discussed at the next meeting.
5) Next Meeting:

7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
