Introduction
On June 6, 1995 City Council approved Cityplan: Directions for Vancouver " as a broad vision for the city, to guide policy decisions, corporate work priorities, budgets, and capital plans." CityPlan includes many next steps, some of which can be accomplished in the short term and others which are longer term.

Bringing CityPlan to Neighbourhoods
In January 1996, Council released a discussion paper, Bringing CityPlan to Neighbourhoods, a proposal to work with neighbourhoods to prepare neighbourhood visions based on CityPlan. This proposal is being reviewed by the public, for a report back to Council.

Rezoning
In January 1996, City Council approved a CityPlan neighbourhood rezoning policy: to continue to consider rezonings that conform to existing city-wide and neighbourhood plans and policies, but not to consider rezoning requests which would prejudice future possibilities for neighbourhood visions.

Planning staff are preparing a report to Council describing a proposed process and options to bring interim zoning to single-family neighbourhoods that request greater design control.

Integrated Service Teams
Fifteen Integrated Services Teams are in place. Each team brings together City staff, from a variety of departments, who work in the community to cooperate with local people on solving community issues. Nineteen community safety initiatives are underway, including neighbourhood police offices.

Housing
In January 1996, Council approved renaming the seniors housing demonstration fund as the Neighbourhood Housing Demonstration Fund to encourage housing projects that support CityPlan's housing affordability and form objectives.

Greenways
The Greenways Plan was approved by Council in July 1995. Planning is underway for the first portion of a city-wide greenway. This pilot greenway project is a portion of the Ridgeway Greenway which will eventually extend from Pacific Spirit Park to Central Park in Burnaby. Neighbourhood greenways across the city are also in various stages of development. There is also a pilot project for several blocks of Garden Drive to achieve more creative residential street design.

Transportation Plan
The Transportation Plan public process is underway, and a draft plan is expected in June. A discussion paper was released in February 1996 with proposed industrial zoning changes that would preserve industrial land and update industrial zoning. A plan is also underway for False Creek Flats.

A Vibrant Central Area
Many planning activities consistent with CityPlan are underway in the central area.

1997-99 Capital Plan
The 1997-99 Capital Plan is being prepared using CityPlan directions as a checklist. The Plan will be voted on as part of the November 1996 city election.

Public Involvement Review
The first stage of a Public Involvement Review is underway to chronicle and evaluate the City's current public involvement, across a full array of City services and programs. This stage is to be completed by 1997.
