STEP 1 - INFORMATION SHEETS

1. Economy

1.1 Sectors

In North America, economic activities are grouped into sectors according to NAICS. This refers to the 1997 North American Industrial Classification System, which was the system used by Statistics Canada in 2001 to categorize jobs and businesses by industry sector. Information sheets for these sectors are available below:

1.2 Sub-Areas

The Metro Core is divided into 21 employment sub-areas. Information sheets for a selection of these areas are available below:

1.3 Structure

The Metro Core plays a key economic role in a growing region. Its economy is growing, diverse and changing. All areas of the Metro Core have distinct job clusters, are diverse, and are growing and adapting to change. 2. Land Use and Development

2.1 Land Use and Development Plans, Policies & Regulations

Existing land use regulations in the Metro Core reflect the vision of the 1991 Central Area Plan. An information sheet that explains these regulations is available below:

2.2 Land Use and Development Profile

The Metro Core has over half of the office space in the region and contains the 4th largest concentration of downtown office space in Canada. Information sheets that examine the supply of employment space in the Metro Core are available below:

3.1 Travel Patterns

Transportation patterns into and within the Metro Core have changed considerably over time. Information sheets that explain and profile these patterns are available below:
