This Advisory Group meeting was the fourth in a series of themed meetings to discuss the priority issues identified at the March 8 meeting. The focus of the meeting was on proposed Sustainability Policies. Staff from the City of Vancouver’s Sustainability department gave a presentation

Community Advisory Group - April 19, 2012
Little Mountain Neighbourhood House
This Advisory Group meeting was the third in a series of themed meetings to discuss the priority issues identified at the March 8 meeting. The focus of the meeting was on proposed Affordable Housing, Community Amenity and Parks Policies. Staff was in attendance from the City of Vancouver’s Social Infrastructure department as well as the Vancouver Parks Board to answer questions and hear comments from the group. City of Vancouver Planning staff gave a presentation

City of Vancouver Engineering staff were in attendance to answer questions from the group. City of Vancouver Planning staff gave a presentation

At this meeting City staff gave a presentation
(1.44mb) on the comment form responses from the January open house meetings, comparing the responses of local postal codes to the total responses.
The Co-Chair of the Advisory Group then let an exercise to identify the top issues of concern for the group. Each member was given 3 cards in which to write down their top three issues. These were then read out by the co-chair and posted on the wall according to common themes and topics. Download a transcript

Open Houses: January 26 and 28, 2012
Open houses were held on January 26 and 28, 2012 at Brock Elementary School. The City of Vancouver Planning staff presented materials on the public process, Guiding Principles and an urban design analysis of the development concept. The proponent, Holborn Properties also presented models and drawings of a development concept. Representatives from the City, Holborn Properties and the Little Mountain Community Advisory Group were available to answer questions and listen to comments.
Members of the public were invited to provide their feedback on the how this development concept meets the guiding principles for the project. Download a transcript

Community Advisory Group - September 20, 2011
Little Mountain Neighbourhood House
The purpose of this meeting was to present a summary of the public feedback received at the open house meetings on July 9 & 12, 2011. City staff presented a power point presentation which summarized each question on the comment sheet which asked how each of the density options met the guiding principles for the project. James Cheng, of James Cheng Architects, gave an update on the work on the site plan and how the public comments will be incorporated to the project.

Open Houses: July 9 and 12, 2011
Open houses were held on July 9th and 12th, 2011 at the Riley Park Community Centre. Materials on the public process to date and Guiding Principles were presented along with a refined site plan scenario prepared by the project proponent, Holborn Properties. This event also presented models and drawings of a range of 3D density options proposed by the proponent. Members of the public were invited to provide their feedback on the how these density options meet the guiding principles for the project. Representatives from the City, Holborn Properties and the Little Mountain Community Advisory Group were available to answer questions and listen to comments.
Once all the comment forms have been received by the City, a transcription and summary will be posted here.

Community Advisory Group - May 31, 2011
Little Mountain Neighbourhood House
The purpose of this meeting was to hear from the Holborn's architecture team on lessons learned from the density exercises and to see a modification to the draft site plan that resulted. A Development Economics 101 presentation was given by economic consultants Coriolis who have been hired by the City to analyze the financial viability of the concepts proposed for Little Mountain. Adjacent Area Residents - May 19, 2011
Riley Park Community Centre
The City met with property owners in the Northeast quadrant adjacent to the Little Mountain site to have economic consultant, Coriolis, present the results of some financial analysis done to study the viability of a variety of possible housing forms and densities in the quadrant. This work was done to gain an understanding of the financial realities of what changes would be worth contemplating for the quadrant as planning work moves forward. View the powerpoint presentation

Community Advisory Group - April 28, 2011

The purpose of this meeting was to continue exploring 3D massing/density for the site. After a brief slide show presentation for inspiration, the Holborn Team led a workshop exercise where groups explored a variety of hypothetical densities for the site via foam models and reported out to the larger group on their experience. The Advisory Group also cast ballots for a new co-chair. Please see minutes

The purpose of this meeting was to reconvene after an unanticipated break in the process, get updated on the timeline for the project and to start exploring 3D massing/density for the site. The Advisory Group discussed the delay in the planning process and the anticipated timelines for the project. Also discussed was the process to nominate a co-chair for the group from the community. After an introductory presentation, the Holborn Team led a workshop exercise where groups explored a variety of hypothetical densities for the site. Bicycle Advisory Committee - October 20, 2010

The Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) is one of 23 bodies who are advisory to City Council on a diversity of issues (other advisory bodies include the Urban Design Panel, the Persons with Disabilities Advisory Committee and the Vancouver Heritage Commission). On October 20, 2010, they passed a motion

Adjacent Area Residents - October 19, 2010
Riley Park Community Centre
At the request of residents and property owners from the quadrant of housing northeast of the Little Mountain site, a meeting was held with City staff to discuss the impacts of the Little Mountain redevelopment. Concern was expressed regarding impact on property values and quality of life when the project is built. Staff responded to questions about process and rezoning and are looking for ways to resource a study into possible zoning changes in the quadrant as identified in the 2005 RPSC Community Vision.

On September 13th the Advisory Group met to review and comment on a consolidated site plan that reflects community and staff feedback and draws on key elements of previous site plan scenarios. James Cheng, the architect for the Holborn Team presented the site plan, and Chris Phillips, landscape architect for the team, presented public realm open space opportunities in the plan. On June 28th the Advisory Group met to continue providing input on the site design for Little Mountain. Ben Johnson, City Planner, reviewed the feedback the City had received so far regarding the site plan scenarios presented at the open houses on June 12 & 15. Members of the group were invited to share what they heard while interacting with the public at the open houses. There was time for general discussion regarding the 4 site plan scenarios. We had 230 people attend our two public open houses on June 12th and 15th at the Riley Park Community Centre. Responding to a request from some members of the Advisory Group, City staff prepared and gave a presentation on how density is measured on individual sites and large-scale development projects. The presentation explained how FSR (Floor Space Ratio), an important density measurment tool, is created, and showed how FSR numbers look using real-world examples in Vancouver. On May 11th the Advisory Group met to continue providing input on the site design for Little Mountain. James Cheng, the architect for the Holborn Team presented seven preliminary site designs, then the Advisory Group broke into three groups for an hour of evaluation. Community Advisory Group - April 15, 2010

On April 15th approximately 35 members of the Advisory Group met for a site programming workshop. The objective for the evening was to start to arrange some of the key elements—housing, social housing, commercial uses, open space, amenities—on the site, drawing on ideas generated so far in the public process. The group broke into four smaller groups to put their ideas on plans with the help of urban designers and architects from the City and the Holborn Team. Each group reported out on their ideas. These drawings will be put on display in the Holborn site office at 4829 Main Street.

Little Mountain Site Design Workshop - February 3, 2010
Brock Elementary School
Holborn Properties and James Cheng Architects hosted a site design workshop on Wednesday, February 3rd, in the Cafeteria at Brock Elementary School. The evening was facilitated by the creative Co-Design Group
led by Stanley King. This group has actively engaged communities on projects such as Woodward's and the PNE.

Adjacent Area (NE Quadrant) Workshop - January 27, 2010
Riley Park Community Center
The Riley Park South Cambie Community Vision, adopted in 2005, recommended that the single family, apartment and commercial area south of East 33rd and west of Main (see map below) "should be considered for zoning changes when planning for redevelopment of the Little Mountain Housing site."
The City met with residents and property owners from this quadrant to attend a workshop on Wednesday, January 27th, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at Riley Park Community Centre. The purpose of this workshop was to discuss how the Adjacent Area could be included in the Little Mountain planning program.

Open Houses: December 5 and 8, 2009
Thanks to all who attended the public open houses on December 5th and 8th at Riley Park Community Centre. Materials on project background, process, and objectives were presented for feedback from the community. Representatives from BC Housing, the Holborn Group, the City, and members of the Riley Park South Cambie Visions Group were present. 250 people from the community attended the open houses and we received 87 completed comment forms.
