Pearson Centre Site Policy Planning Program

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and the City of Vancouver are having discussions about VCH’s need to undertake planning for the renewal and expansion of health care services on the George Pearson precinct. In the future, this area could welcome new residential users, as well as some new community and complementary commercial amenities.

At this stage, these are all just ideas. The only two certainties are: First, VCH needs to rebuild the existing George Pearson site to meet the current and future health care needs of the community. Second, all of those impacted by the project will have the opportunity to participate in the planning process through open houses, workshops and community meetings.

A project of this scope takes time to plan and complete. The first stage is a policy review which alone is expected to take approximately 12-18 months from the time we start it. Initially, we hoped to begin this process in the fall of 2009. Unfortunately, we must delay the start to provide VCH with time to ensure sufficient resources are in place to undertake this extensive planning and engagement process. As soon as a new start date is known, we will share it with residents, staff and community members.
