Omicron has applied to the City of Vancouver to amend the existing CD-1 (Comprehensive Development) District By-law for 2001 Nanton Avenue (The Arbutus Club). The proposal is to cover the existing surface tennis courts with a seasonal, air-supported structure. There is no change in use of occupant load associated with this application; the applicant intends to extend the time period during which the tennis courts can be used throughout the year.
Because there is limited floor space ratio (FSR) available for temporary structures, the applicant is proposing to amend the current zoning to permit an increase in temporary FSR, which would allow the tennis bubble. The proposal also requires a small addition of permanent FSR to house mechanical equipment required to maintain the inflation of the bubble (and storage of the bubble when it is not in use). The applicant proposes a small, discrete structure on the south side of the existing building for these purposes.
This application has been approved by Council at Public Hearing on January 30, 2012 and By-law No. 10470 was enacted at a Regular Council Meeting on April 17, 2012.
