Acton Ostry Architects Inc. has submitted a revised rezoning application for the Vancouver Talmud Torah School and Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue sites. The requested revisions to the application include:

    • demolition of a two-storey school building at the northeast corner of the site and expansion of the proposed 4-storey school "wing" into that area.
    • elimination of the proposed "community office" use on the school site - replacing that area with school-related uses.
    • an additional floor is indicated on the "community office" building proposed on the Synagogue site.
    • additional parking - 314 spaces (previously 246).
    • proposed total floor space ratio (FSR) - 1.23 (previously 1.14).

This application has been approved by Council at Public Hearing on February 27, 2012.

Acton Ostry Architects Inc. has applied to the City of Vancouver to rezone the Vancouver Talmud Torah School and Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue sites from RS-1 (One-Family Dwelling) District to a CD-1 (Comprehensive Development) District to permit the following:

    • a 4-storey “wing” addition to the School, along the east property line;
    • a 1-storey addition to the portion of the School building adjacent to Oak Street;
    • a 2-storey addition to the rear of the Synagogue, immediately east of the existing building and renovations to the existing Synagogue building;
    • a new 3-storey building to be used for Community Service offices adjacent to the east property line; and
    • a landscaped courtyard and new entry plaza in the centre portion of the site.

The proposed overall density would be a floor space ratio (FSR) of 1.14.  The maximum building height would be approximately 63 ft. (for the 4-storey addition to the School).  Underground parking for 246 vehicles is proposed.
