A. Grants Available for Non-Profit, Licensed Childcare Services

1. Childcare Enhancement Grant

Please note that the deadline for the 2009 grant program is March 27, 2009 at 4:30 pm.

Childcare Enhancement Grants may be used to:

  • Keep parent fees below the city-wide average
  • Enhance staff ratios to better serve high-need children
  • Assist programs which serve low and modest income families in maintaining lower than average fees
  • Strengthen coordinated administration through the community hub model
  • Develop and implement a quality improvement plan
  • Provide a food supplement program (e.g. hot lunch and breakfast).

The maximum grant available is $27,000 per eligible program (maximum 3 programs per organization).

2. Program Stabilization 

The Program Stabilization Grant helps a non-profit centre stabilize their financial situation, restructure their financial systems, and conduct long term financial planning.

 

One time emergency grants of up to $5,000 for non-profit centres in financial crisis.

3. Program Development

The Program Development Grant helps pay non-capital costs to assess community needs, incorporate and license a centre, organize the program, and operate during start-up phase.

  Grants of up to $5,000 to cover the costs of opening a new facility or expanding existing services.

Eligible organizations applying under Section A categories must be:

  • Non-profit societies in good standing
  • Offering licensed childcare services in the City of Vancouver
  • Serving Vancouver residents
  • Open to all people regardless of race, religion or ethnic background
  • Involving parents and staff in the decision-making about the childcare program

Priority is given to:

  • Centres providing full-day and out-of-school care in high need, under-served areas of the city.

B. Grants Available for Non-Profit Organizations Involved in City-Wide Childcare Issues

1. Research, Policy Development, and Innovation Grant

Research, Policy Development and Innovation Grants support research and other projects whose aim is to develop and improve childcare services in the city and address key issues designated by Council.

The eligible organization applying under section B categories must be:

  • A non-profit society in good-standing
  • Located in the City of Vancouver
  • Working collaboratively with other organizations and levels of government to enhance childcare in Vancouver
