Inspiring Innovation - Childcare Symposium April 2010
In the Spring of 2010, the City of Vancouver hosted a national symposium on childcare. Inspiring Innovation—Investing in Human Capital: Early Care and Learning Hubs was held on April 27th and 28th 2010. Over the course of two days, 150 participants interacted with senior policy advisors, researchers, government, leaders from business, labour, health, public safety and community as well as early childhood care and education advocates, providers and service users to debate the most important issues related to investing in human capital.
The purpose of the Symposium was to:
- Examine the public policy frameworks that will strengthen programs to reduce children’s vulnerability, with an emphasis on early care and learning;
- Explore the compelling evidence that links investments in early care and learning with individual, family economic and social well-being;
- Learn about the jurisdictions where early care and learning hubs are being implemented on the ground;
- Engage in dialogue, learning, and knowledge exchange about barriers and opportunities for change; and
- Contribute to an action plan for integrated early care and learning in Vancouver. Together we will explore ways to articulate a broad and integrated vision for public investments, develop strategies to remove barriers and create the basis for a shared commitment to move this vision into action.
