Southeast False Creek: Ownership Information

Process

In October 1999 the Southeast False Creek Policy Statement was adopted by Council. This led to the creation of the Official Development Plan (ODP), which was enacted in July 2005. It is important to distinguish between the City owned lands (Public Lands) and the privately owned lands (Private Lands).

SEFC Public and Private Lands

Public Lands

The first area to be constructed within the public lands is the Olympic Village or Sub-Area 2A.  Millennium was selected to design and construct the Olympic Village for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The remaining lands will be built after the Games with completion expected by 2018.  Sub-Area 2A will represent approximately 1.2 million square feet of development.

Private Lands

Portions of the SEFC ODP area are under private ownership. Currently individual sites are involved in various stages of the re-development process.

The Project Office

The City of Vancouver established the Southeast False Creek and Olympic Village Project Office to manage the development of the City Lands in Southeast False Creek. The Project Office reports directly to the City Manager’s Office and represents the development interests of the City Lands. The regulatory interests of the City are still represented by other departments.

For details on the Olympic Village, project updates and timelines, news releases and reports, visit the Southeast False Creek and Olympic Village Project Office website.
