Temporary memorial locations
To continue supporting respectful spaces for remembrance, the local neighbourhood’s path to healing, and safe and accessible streets and sidewalks, the temporary roadside memorial at E 43rd Ave and Fraser St will be respectfully closed on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Following this date, the temporary memorial at Mountain View Cemetery will remain available. Located close to the incident site but away from the busy roadway and school grounds, the cemetery site offers sheltered spaces for remembrance, with seating and weather protection.
Update on temporary memorial items
On August 20, 2025, items in good condition, such as cards, signs, and teddy bears, will be carefully moved to the Mountain View Cemetery memorial.
Items that have deteriorated or pose a safety risk, such as expired flowers, candles, or glass objects, will be respectfully composted, recycled, or disposed of.
The Mountain View Cemetery memorial will continue to be maintained in close coordination with Victim Services and community groups.
Our team will make sure memorial spaces, nearby pathways, and sidewalks are safe, clean, and accessible. Items will only be removed with care when necessary to maintain public safety or access.
Bringing new memorial items
You are welcome to bring items to the Mountain View Cemetery memorial, with the exception of candles or glass objects.
Help keep the temporary memorials safe and accessible for all
- Keep sidewalks and pathways clear for others to pass safely.
