The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on our city. Every resident and every business has struggled. As a large, regional municipality, Vancouver’s response to the pandemic has been significant.
Our response is ongoing, and will continue until the pandemic is over.
In May, we began restarting services and re-opening our facilities and services. That work is now nearly complete.
We are focusing on key existing and new initiatives to support and accelerate broader economic and community recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Council COVID-19 Recovery Committee played a key role in the development of the recovery program by seeking valuable input from more than two dozen experts and stakeholders that has informed which recovery initiatives are prioritized.
These initiatives are designed to help people, organizations and businesses recover, and to move Vancouver forward. More programs and initiatives will be brought forward over the coming weeks and months.
Some recovery initiatives already started
Repurposing public space for gathering spaces and recreation.
Repurposing curb lanes for walking or customer line-ups.
Repurposing public and private space to allow for more patio space for businesses.
Recovery support for non-profit and social enterprise organizations.
