Call for artists: Community street art

We’re looking for individuals or groups who:

• Have a background in art or design
• Enjoy building community
• Are passionate about public art and community expression
• Have an interest in transforming shared public spaces

Applicants should also:

• Be established or emerging artists, designers, or creatives
• Have experience working with community members or mentoring others
• Be based in Metro Vancouver

We welcome applications from individuals of all abilities and experience levels. An interest in mentoring others to develop temporary artwork that brings public spaces to life is key.

We encourage applications from individuals who identify as Indigenous Host Nations (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ), Urban Indigenous, Two-Spirit, Black, racialized, LGBTQIA+, or disabled — including those who hold more than one of these identities.

Stream 1: Bring your own opportunity

This stream allows you to propose your own sites suitable for temporary street art, such as:

• Concrete barriers
• Traffic blocks
• On-street surfaces

Stream 2: Use a pre-approved site

You can also choose from these pre-approved sites:

• Ontario St and E 30th Ave bike blocks
• Rain-friendly Cambie Plaza ground and bridge columns

Total project budgets range from $8,000 to $15,000, including any in-kind services.

The project lead (community convenor) should receive 25% to 35% of the total budget as their fee.
