2010 Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Program
The City of Vancouver’s Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Program. It included more than 20 new permanent and temporary public artworks commissioned for the 2010 Winter Games.
This diverse collection ranges from grand light-based works and sculptural installations at city landmarks to celebratory works in the heart of our communities. Look for these commissions in parks, on streets and waterways.
In September 2008, Vancouver City Council approved the final Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Plan
(4.26mb). The program aimed to:
- Commission works of art ranging from large legacy works to temporary, celebratory and community projects
- Shape a collection of works of art that reflect the spirit of Vancouver and the pursuit of excellence that characterize the Olympic movement
- Aspire to the highest level of creativity and excellence in public art-making
- Engage the best artists, whether local, national or international

Mapping and Marking Vancouver 2010
Eight distinctive projects selected out of 150 was celebrated, mapped and marked Vancouver during the Olympic year.

Legacy Sites
These nine projects by senior and emerging artists were selected from over 400 submissions from around the world. During the 2010 Games, this collection of light-based artworks and sculptural installations animated venues and signature locations around the city.

Bright Light
Vancouver’s Carrall Street Greenway in the city's Downtown Eastside was the home of these 14 commissioned public art projects.
Through a joint effort of artists and arts organizations based and/or active in the area, installations, events & projects lit up the neighbourhood and showcased the community’s cultural vitality.

Partner Projects
