Oakridge Centre Policy Planning Program

Oakridge

The policy planning program for the Oakridge Centre site is now complete. The owners of Oakridge Centre, Ivanhoe Cambridge, approached the City in 2004 to initiate a process to establish planning and development principles that will guide growth at the Centre. In October 2004, City Council endorsed a public policy review process to re-examine the future of the Oakridge Centre site. After two years of planning, design, and consultation, the Oakridge Centre Policy Statement was developed and subsequently approved by City Council on March 15, 2007.

Oakridge Centre Policy Statement (approved March 2007)

Policy Statement

Under the approved Policy Statement, the 28-acre Oakridge Centre, when rezoned, will become a more sustainable mixed use neighbourhood centre, well integrated with transit and the Canada Line. The Policy Statement includes a significant increase in retail, commercial office, residential and amenity uses on the Oakridge Centre site.

It is anticipated that the owners, Ivanhoe Cambridge, will submit a rezoning application for the next stage of planning work in the near future, in implementing the vision set out in the Policy Statement.

Cambie Corridor Planning Program (New!)

Oakridge Centre and the Oakridge-41st Canada Line Station is part of the Cambie Corridor Planning Program. To take advantage of the Canada Line (opened in August 2009), the City is undergoing a major planning initiative to develop a land use policy plan for the Cambie Corridor between 16th Avenue and the Fraser River. The plan will focus on opportunities to integrate development with transit along and around the Canada Line to support the City’s goals of environmental sustainability, livability and affordability. The plan will also emphasize walking and cycling trips, especially those integrated with transit. For more information on the program, please visit the Cambie Corridor Planning Program website.
