Central Broadway Planning Program

Related Planning Work

The City of Vancouver's Central Broadway Planning Program Area overlaps with other planning initiaitives (see below). The Planning Program objectives (i.e., ensure sufficient job space, improve the public realm, align with transit planning, provide the right mix of public benefits, improve sustainability performance) are distinct from, yet consistent with, the related planning initiatives.

UBC Line Rapid Transit Study

The UBC Line Rapid Transit Study Globeis being carried out by TransLink and the Province in consultation with the City of Vancouver and other partner organisations. This Study is evaluating alignment and technology options for rapid transit in the Broadway corridor (from Commercial Drive west to UBC). The Central Broadway Planning Program will work alongside the UBC Line Rapid Transit Study to ensure the integration of land use and transit in the Central Broadway area. Almost all of the area under review in the Central Broadway Planning Program is also included in the UBC Line Rapid Transit Study area (see map).

Mount Pleasant Community Planning Program

The Mount Pleasant Community Planning Program, currently underway, is preparing a long range community plan. Portions of the study areas for Mount Pleasant and Central Broadway Planning Programs overlap. The two Planning Programs are coordinating with each other to ensure that their mutual goals are met. The Mount Pleasant work is nearing completion (i.e. draft policy directions have been tested with the community at open houses in April 2010). The Central Broadway work will respect and, if feasible, help implement those directions in the Mount Pleasant Community Plan which apply to Central Broadway.
