City of Vancouver Heritage Awards

Information

The City of Vancouver Heritage Awards acknowledge the special accomplishments, projects and efforts which have furthered the goal of heritage conservation in the City.

AWARDS CEREMONY

The Heritage Awards Ceremony is scheduled for May 25, 2009. Invitations will be sent out shortly.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Projects must have been completed within the last five years.
  • Projects, including advocacy efforts, that have previously received a City of Vancouver Heritage Award are not eligible.
  • The jury reserves the right to not give awards in any of the levels of recognition.

NOMINATIONS ARE ACCEPTED FOR:

  • Restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive re-use or continued maintenance of a heritage building, a significant interior of a heritage building, or characteristic features of a heritage building;
  • Use of innovative engineering techniques or restoration/conservation methods in upgrading a heritage building which may include seismic upgrading;
  • Preservation of a heritage landscape;
  • Heritage advocacy of a group or individual in the preservation of a heritage site or increasing public awareness of heritage issues;
  • Publication, education program, exhibit, or activity that promotes heritage conservation;
  • Efforts in community or neighbourhood revitalization.

Friday, January 23, 2009 4 p.m.

AWARD CLASSIFICATIONS

Honour - demonstrate an outstanding contribution to heritage conservation.
Merit - projects that make an important contribution in whole or in part to heritage conservation.
Recognition - acknowledge an accomplishment, project or effort which contributes to heritage conservation.

AWARDS JURY

The Awards Jury will be composed of members of the Vancouver Heritage Commission and guest jurors. All decisions of the jury are final. This year’s jury: Cheryl Cooper, James Burton, and Kim Maust, with Gordon Price and Eva Matsuzaki.

Members of the jury will not enter into correspondence or other dialogue with nominees before, during or after the decision process.

Incomplete submissions will be considered ineligible for consideration by the jury.
