The Vancouver Animal Shelter provides services for lost and stray pets found within the city of Vancouver.

Our staff work to reunite dogs and small animals with their owners and ensure animals are safe and well cared for during their stay.

All adoptable animals are cared for by experienced Animal Care attendants and assessed for health and behaviour before being listed for adoption.

Adoptable animals

The most common animals at the shelter are dogs, along with small animals such as birds, hamsters, rats, gerbils, reptiles, and guinea pigs.

We do not accept cats or surrendered pets. If you are looking to rehome an animal, visit the Vancouver SPCA for more information. If you would like to adopt a cat, contact the Vancouver SPCA or Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) .

How to adopt a dog or small pet

Want to adopt a pet and give them a "forever" home? We're thrilled! Our pro-adoption shelter places 200 to 300 dogs and small animals every year with families and homes that best meet the needs of the animals.
