Steve Jackson
General Manager, Parks and Recreation
Steve Jackson brings strategic leadership, governance expertise, and strong financial acumen to his role as General Manager of Parks and Recreation. He is responsible for the planning, operation, and stewardship of all Vancouver parks and recreation facilities. This diverse portfolio is inclusive of community centres, public amenities, and revenue-generating services. Steve recognizes the vital role that parks, recreation, and public spaces play in supporting the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of Vancouver residents and visitors.
Since joining the Vancouver Park Board in 2016 as Director of Finance, Steve has held progressively senior leadership roles, including Director of Business Services and Deputy General Manager. Before joining the organization, he built expertise in finance, operations, and business strategy through positions with KPMG and CHC Helicopter, a global provider of helicopter transportation services. He was appointed General Manager in 2023.
Steve’s approach to managing the organization is grounded in 4 core priorities: measurability, accountability, customer service, and safety. He stresses the importance of using data and service performance measures to understand how facilities and programs are being used, assess what is working, and make informed decisions about where improvements are needed. He holds teams accountable for decisions and results, maintains a strong focus on responsive customer service, and keeps the safety of the public and staff at the forefront in the delivery of services and operations.
As General Manager, Steve has led the development and delivery of capital plans, advanced major infrastructure and park projects, while executing the Board of Commissioners' approved priorities and motions. He has also focused on strengthening financial sustainability through revenue-generating services and financial performance, helping the organization continue to invest in parks, facilities, and services to meet the needs of a growing city.
