Donny van Dyk
Incoming city manager
Donny van Dyk will take on his new role as city manager in September 2025. With a career spanning both public and private sector, van Dyk brings a pragmatic and results-driven leadership style to one of Canada’s most dynamic and diverse cities.
Prior to joining the City, van Dyk served as city manager for the City of Delta. His leadership was instrumental in advancing public safety, affordability and housing. During his tenure, Delta saw crime rates drop to their lowest levels since 2018, while also successfully delivering on its Provincial Housing Target Order by modernizing the Official Community Plan, updating zoning bylaws, and streamlining development approvals.
Van Dyk also held the role of city manager in Penticton, where he oversaw a period of significant transition, growth, and modernization. During that time, he expanded a provincially recognized Community Safety Officer program, managed BC’s fourth-largest electrical utility, and guided the city through wildfires, floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier in his career, he served as chief administrative officer for the District of New Hazelton. His municipal leadership is complemented by senior roles at Enbridge, where he worked across Indigenous relations, government affairs, and finance.
A chartered professional accountant, van Dyk, who was born and raised in Terrace, BC, holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria, a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Northern British Columbia, and a Business Administration diploma from Coast Mountain College.
