Adopt a Park pilot

Adopt a Park is a volunteer-based pilot program with the goal of creating cleaner neighbourhood parks and green spaces.

This program encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to take an active role in keeping their neighbourhoods healthy and litter-free while connecting with their community.

About the program

Who can participate

Everyone is welcome. You can volunteer as an individual, a family, a business, a community organization, or as part of a group of friends or neighbours.

Students can join to earn volunteer hours for graduation, and seniors can participate to stay active in their community.

Participants involved in other neighbourhood cleanup programs, like Adopt a Block, are also eligible to participate in Adopt a Park.
What is involved

We are looking for volunteers who can visit and clean up their adopted park once every 2 weeks for a minimum of 1 year.

We also ask that volunteers identify and report any hazardous materials they find during their cleanups (for example, needles, broken glass, large abandoned items, and such) through the Vancouver Needle Hotline or via the Van311 app.

If you are interested in participating but are unable to commit to cleaning up your park every 2 weeks, consider joining our Adopt a Block program instead.

Why participate
Park Board and Sanitation crews provide daily cleaning services such as picking up litter, emptying public waste bins, and removing illegally-dumped garbage. Although our crews already provide a high level of service, there is still a lot of work to be done, particularly at the neighbourhood level.

By participating in Adopt a Park, you will:
- Help keep our parks clean and litter free
- Make a positive impact in your community
- Connect with your neighbours
- Prevent litter from entering our waterways and ocean
How to sign up
1. Select 'Adopt a Park' on the Adopt-a-City platform.
2. Create an account.
3. Check your email for a welcome message and instructions to request cleanup equipment.
4. Once you have your cleanup equipment, log in, select your park, and start volunteering. (Volunteers may only adopt one park at a time.)
5. Complete your first cleanup and log it in the online platform.
