Mr. Charles Franklin Moore's gift
Mr. Charles Franklin Moore thought about the things that gave him the most pleasure in life while planning his estate.
A long time resident of Vancouver's West End, his back garden was everybody's favourite place - Stanley Park.
His decision to invest in one of the great parks of the world has made all the difference.
An avid tennis player for much of his life, Mr. Moore he had seen the gradual deterioration of the three tennis courts at Lost Lagoon.
His generous estate gift funded the redevelopment of the tennis courts and also established an endowment that supports recreation programs offered through the City's community centres. An elegant granite marker in Stanley Park bears witness to Mr. Moore's generosity.
"My uncle would have been so pleased to see the work that has been done to make these tennis courts so appealing for those who love the sport as he did, and he would also be happy knowing that the endowment established as part of his estate gift will enable others to learn this fine sport," said Catherine Moore.
The Charles Franklin Moore Endowment has inspired many of Vancouver’s residents and visitors to contribute to the development of recreation programs.
