Endowments

In 2006, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation created an endowment providing individuals and organizations with the opportunity to contribute to the long term, sustainable funding of city parks and recreation activities.

When you establish a named endowment, you can designate your gifts to the Park Conservation Endowment or to the Recreation Endowment.

Park Conservation Endowment

The Park Conservation Endowment provides sustainable funding for park conservation projects throughout the City. Interest from the Endowment can be designated to your favourite park for projects, such as trail rebuilding, protecting environmentally sensitive areas, invasive species removal, or replanting of native trees and shrubs.

Recreation Endowment

The Recreation Endowment provides sustainable funding for the development of new recreation programs. Interest from the Endowment can be designated to your favourite community centre, playground, or recreation program such as adapted sports, after school programs, or seniors' dance classes.

What is an endowment?

An endowment is a donation that generates interest. The interest generated from the endowment provides a constant source of funding for your area of interest.  Once the endowment is established, it remains open for additional donations.

An endowment is created with donations of $25,000 or more.

Donations such as cash, publicly traded securities, life insurance or a bequest can be used to fund the endowment.

An endowment can be named in honour or in memory of a loved one.
