Find below-market rental housing

What you need to know

Below-market rental housing is:

  • Purpose-built rental housing with permanently-secured maximum rents set at a discount to the city-wide average, based on the annual CMHC Rental Market Report
  • Intended for renters who may not qualify for non-market housing but can't afford market rents
  • Subject to maximum income and household size eligibility requirements
  • Delivered in new apartment buildings that also include market rental homes
  • Enabled through incentives such as an increase in height and density
  • Mainly built and managed by private developers but can also be provided by non-profits or government organizations

You can find more details on current below-market rents and tenant eligibility criteria in the Rental Incentive Programs Bulletin (345 KB).

How to apply

Each building manager handles operations and tenanting. Prospective tenants should contact the building operator directly for information on available units and the application process.

We do not have information on unit availability and do not maintain a general waiting list.
