Council-approved grants invest in the local community to support a more vibrant, equitable, safe, and healthy city where everyone can thrive.

Our work advances approved City strategies and Council’s objectives as outlined in Vibrant Vancouver: City Council’s Strategic Priorities.

To serve our diverse communities, we collaborate with program partners, other City departments, senior government, public partners, and community members.

Grant types
The grants can only be directed to non-profit organizations (NPOs) and often serve as an initial investment that leverages additional resources from other levels of government or foundations. This maximizes our impact by attracting incremental support from the public and private sectors. Grants include:
- Operating grants: support NPOs with operating costs to deliver programs and services
- Capital grants: support NPOs with facility upgrades and maintenance, planning for space and for the purchase of space
- Below-market leases: provide NPOs with access to City-owned or leased land or spaces at below market rents to deliver programs and services. Recipients include neighbourhood houses, childcare centres, shelters, and cultural spaces such as theatres and museums.

Grant alignment

Vibrant Vancouver: City Council’s Strategic Priorities outlines Council’s 9 strategic objectives. In 2024, ACCS Council approved grants supporting Vibrant Vancouver priority areas as outlined in the table below.

Grants are distributed based on four areas within ACCS:

While many programs and services supported by grants often contribute to more than one Vibrant Vancouver priority, for simplicity, each grant has been assigned a single primary Vibrant Vancouver priority above.

We provided $31.2 million in Council-approved operating and capital grants to non-profit organizations providing services in the Arts & Culture, Social Services and Development, Childcare, and Housing & Homelessness Services sectors.
