Body-worn cameras for parking enforcement officers (PEO)

Role of a PEO

PEOs play an important role in keeping our roads safe and clear of traffic by enforcing the City’s parking regulations. They interact with the public on a daily basis on foot, bike, or in a vehicle.

Following a successful 6-month pilot, we are expanding the body-worn camera program for parking enforcement officers (PEOs). All PEOs will be equipped with body-worn cameras in the coming months.

The pilot, launched in August 2025 with 15 PEOs, resulted in:

  • A 26% decline in violent incidents
  • Fewer escalating interactions with the public
  • An increased sense of safety among officers using the cameras

When cameras are used

Cameras are for safety only and will not be used for parking enforcement.

A PEO will activate the camera to start recording if they feel their safety is at risk. The public may be recorded during these situations.
