  Biography

  Sean Orr is a housing activist, working-class dishwasher, and columnist who has been writing about Vancouver for 20 years. He’s known in Vancouver for being an outspoken and sincere advocate for people. He’s not afraid to be outspoken or fight for what is right.

  Born in Surrey to working-class parents who immigrated to Canada from Northern Ireland in 1978, Sean Orr has lived in Gastown for most of his adult life. He has been a columnist and housing advocate for over 20 years and has worked as a dishwasher and landscaper in addition to being a writer and musician. 

  Sean’s “Tea and Two Slices” column in Scout Magazine developed a dedicated readership as a round-up of political and cultural news in Vancouver. Sean is a musician and the lead singer of the band NEEDS. Sean earned a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in Political Science and Geography from Simon Fraser University in 2025.

  As a private citizen well known for his public affairs advocacy, Sean Orr is respected for always siding with the oppressed and the marginalized, and for courageously taking on bigots and bullies of all types. He looks forward to carrying on this work with a new role and new platform at City Hall.
