Apply for a low complexity event permit

Low complexity events must take place between 8am to 11pm (including set up, take down, and cleanup).

Road closures, liquor or food services, marketing activity, or large structures are not permitted, which allows for these events to remain low complexity.

Note We will not accept events that have components on Parks Board or private property.

Types of low complexity events include:

• Community games (for example board games, chess, mah-jong, and more)
• Small markets
• Educational activities and events
• Storytelling or cultural sharing
• Small-scale music or arts performances
• Community pop-up events

Eligible

To be eligible for a low complexity event permit, your event:

• Must be free and open to the public with no barriers to entry
• May include food trucks or prepackaged food
• Cannot include features such as:
  • Liquor service
  • Street closures
  • On-site food preparation
  • Use of propane or fire
  • Large structures, tents, or stages above 4 feet tall or larger than 645 square feet

Not eligible

Your event is not eligible if you are proposing:

• Cooking food on-site
• Ticketed entry with sales
• Closure of any street or sidewalk
• High risk sports (for example skateboarding)
• Installation of structures (for example stages, platforms, and more) above 4 feet tall or area of 645 square. feet
• Weddings
• Use of park space  (Review the steps to holding an event in a park)

If your event isn't eligible, apply for a special event permit

Note The plazas are public spaces and events won't have exclusive use of the space (other users of the space can't be asked to leave).

Organizer responsibility

• Demonstrate respectful behaviour towards neighbours and make sure nearby residents are not disturbed
• Do not obstruct any pedestrian thoroughfare or access to a plaza during an event
• Do the event and all set up or clean up activities between 8am and 11pm
• Do no store plaza furniture off-site  (You can temporarily move plaza furniture out of the way if needed.)
• Return plaza to the state you found the plaza in at the end of the event (for example, put the furniture back in its place)
