Depending on the type of event you are hosting on private property, you may be required to get a permit or licence.

The length of time required for event approval depends on the complexity of the event. Additional approvals may be needed for things like building and electrical permits or street closures.

If your event requires additional permits, apply for a permit 2 to 5 months before the event date.

If your event does not require other permits, apply for a permit 4 weeks before the event date.

Special event on private property proposal

To hold a special event on private property, you may be required to fill out a special event on private property proposal form  (141 KB).

Planning an event during FIFA World Cup 26™, June 11 to July 19, 2026

If your event includes showing broadcasts of FIFA World Cup 26™ matches outside a private home, the event is considered a public viewing event and may require a licence from FIFA .
