Vancouver South Transfer Station

Expect lengthy delays

Urgent repairs are underway at the Vancouver South Transfer Station. We are still accepting all traffic (commercial/residential).

COVID-19: recycling and disposal facilities

Free compost event in May cancelled

Our free compost event in May is cancelled to discourage non-essential travel and help reduce the spread of COVID-19. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Ensuring health, safety, and continued operations

  • Visit our facilities ONLY if absolutely necessary; if you are unwell stay home
  • If you visit our facilities, wash your hands before and after your visit and keep 2 m (6 ft) away from staff and other guests
  • Defer spring cleaning to help prevent overloading residential waste collection and depot facilities
  • Follow disposal guidelines for garbage and organic waste
  • Store bulky and recyclable items at home until the pandemic is over

Changes at our facilities

  • Access is restricted to respect physical distancing so expect delays
  • Walk-ins not permitted (vehicles only)
  • Suspended/cancelled:
    • Landfill open house
    • Landfill tours
  • We are accepting new drywall again at the Vancouver South Transfer Station and Vancouver Landfill
  • Compost is available for sale at the Vancouver Landfill
    • You must bring your own shovel and use one of the stations set up for self collection
    • Staff can help load customers who have trucks and trailers
Effective May 1, 2021, we will no longer be selling backyard composters or rain barrels at the Vancouver South Transfer Station or until stock runs out, whichever comes first.

The Vancouver South Transfer Station is for commercial and residential customers to dispose of garbage, and to drop off select recyclable materials.

Wood products with glue

Wood products with glue (such as plywood, particle board, and oriented strand board) are no longer accepted for recycling, and must be separated from clean wood waste for disposal as garbage.

How your total fee is calculated

We take the following steps to calculate your disposal fee:

  1. When you arrive, staff ask what items you are dropping off and weigh your vehicle.
  2. You dispose of your items.
  3. Staff weigh your vehicle again, and calculate the weight of the disposed items based on the difference.
  4. You pay your fees before leaving.

Sort your load before drop-off to avoid extra fees

If you have a mixed load of items, you may:

  • Weigh in, then drop off one item type at a time, and loop back to the weigh scales after each item is dropped off and fees will be based on each item type
  • Weigh all items at once and dispose of everything at the garbage rate

We encourage you to sort your load before drop-off to ensure you do not have to pay additional fees.
