Chinatown art wrap call

What's happening

We received more than 20 submissions – thank you to all of the artists who applied. Four artists have been selected and their designs will be installed throughout the neighbourhood in the coming weeks.

The City is seeking artists to create digitized vinyl designs for up to nine utility boxes throughout Vancouver’s Chinatown.

Throughout its history, Chinatown has been the centre of Chinese-Canadians’ stories of overcoming discrimination, and in the process, making Canada a more just society. As the City develops a long-term plan to conserve Chinatown’s living culture and heritage as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we’re inviting proposals for a series of art wraps with the people and place in mind.

Artists can select between three to nine boxes to wrap as a series, and the application deadline is August 8, 2018.

The Chinatown art wrap call aims to contribute to the street experience and artistic development of Chinatown.

To qualify, artists had to have a relationship or connection to Vancouver’s Chinatown culture and history. Artwork had to be:

  • New, unique, original work
  • Successfully completed by end of summer 2018
