Planning for the future of Kitsilano Pool

Kitsilano Pool has reached the end of its functional life, with many failing and deteriorating components and damage from past storms. This makes it more complex to open each season.

In June 2024, Council directed City and Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation staff to conduct a feasibility study to plan next steps for renewing the pool to better withstand climate change and storms.

What's happeningKitsilano Pool renewal updates

Following a feasibility study and public engagement, we developed 3 options for Kitsilano Pool’s future and shared them with Council and the Park Board.

The study reviewed technical, environmental, and financial factors. Engagement showed strong community interest in preserving the pool’s length and character. Feasibility options include:

  • Protect the existing facility (approximately 15 year lifespan)
  • Renovate the existing facility (approximately 30 year lifespan)
  • Replace with a new facility outside the floodplain (approximately 75 year lifespan)

No decisions have been made yet. We will seek final decisions from the Park Board on setting priorities and Council on overall funding through the 2027–2030 Capital Plan approval process before advancing this work.
