What you need to know
No fees, simpler permit process, and more
In fall 2025, we updated storefront seating, previously called “small sidewalk patios”, to remove fees, simplify the permit process, and expand eligibility to include non-food businesses. Learn more about:
Storefront seating consists of simple tables and chairs and/or benches against the building, placed on the sidewalk either directly in front of and/or to the side of your business. The permit term for storefront seating is May 1 to April 30.
Liquor service and consumption is not permitted for storefront seating. Learn more about sidewalk patios and curbside patios for outdoor seating options that can support liquor service.
Renew an existing storefront seating permit
Starting in 2026, you will no longer have to submit your Liability Insurance Certificate (LIC) to the City, but you will still be required to obtain insurance that meet the minimum requirements. The minimum limit of liability per occurrence must be $2,000,000.
You will also no longer have to pay any fees for storefront seating renewals (formerly called “small sidewalk patios”).
