Summer curbside patios

Your curbside patio may be located in the curb lane of the street in front of and/or to the side of your ground-floor business.

What's happeningImportant timelines for new 2026 applications

Submit your patio application by the end of:

  • January 2026 to ensure sufficient time to obtain a patio permit for the start of the summer term (April 1)
  • March 2026 to ensure sufficient time to obtain a patio permit for the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026 (mid-June) including installation of traffic safety measures

If you would like to serve liquor on your patio, you will need a separate application to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB). Contact the LCRB for their licensing process and timelines.

New accessibility and safety requirements and more design options

  • For 2026, there are new guidelines for summer curbside patios, including accessibility and safety requirements and more design options. Review the Summer Curbside Patio Design Guidelines
  • Existing permit holders must meet the new accessibility and design requirements within three years. All summer curbside patios must be upgraded by the 2028 patio season.
  • We will provide a one-time, full permit fee credit or refund once patios have been updated to meet the new requirements.
