A person under an umbrella records observations in a rain garden as part of the Community Science Program.

Community Science Program

Community science brings together community members and scientists to explore local environmental questions and solve problems.

Help us measure and report on the benefits of rain gardens across Vancouver by volunteering with one of our community science teams.

What are rain gardens

Rain gardens are bowl-shaped gardens designed as a form of green rainwater infrastructure.

They help to:

  • Collect rainwater where it falls
  • Filter pollutants through specially designed soil and plants
  • Absorb water into the ground
