Supportive Housing Capital Grant program

If your Vancouver-based non-profit organization is directly involved in property management or operations of supportive housing in Vancouver, you may be eligible for a Supportive Housing Capital Grant.

Eligible applicants should have on-site staffing the majority of time and offer at least 2 of the following on-site supports:

• Meal program
• Home care or help with daily living
• Counselling or peer support
• Life-skills training
• Employment services
• Access to health, mental health, or medical supports
• Access to addiction services
• Community connection and social events
• Referrals to off-site services such as primary health care, mental health, or substance-use services

Here are some examples of projects that could be eligible for the grant program:

Landscaping

• Urban agriculture (for example: planter boxes, trees, and other plantings for food security)
• Fences
• Shade enhancements
• Outdoor furniture
• Outdoor amenity equipment (for example: basketball hoop, barbecue, and other amenity items)
• Outdoor amenity spaces (for example: gazebo, shed for carving or painting, and other amenity spaces)
• External storage space
• Building painting
• Sculptures or art installations

Building amenities

• Awnings
• Window coverings internal or external (for example: curtains, blinds, or shutters)
• Fans or portable air conditioners 
• Indoor amenity equipment, such as:
  • Recreational equipment (for example: pool table, workout equipment, and other such equipment) 
  • Furniture or amenities for common spaces
• Kitchen enhancements (for example: new appliances) 

Security improvements

• Garbage security or enclosure
• Lighting
• Enhancements for safe consumption space (for example: air scrubbers, cameras, or barn doors)

Planning

• Planning or feasibility studies

The SHCG program offers a maximum of $25,000 for each application. The project must be completed within 1 year from disbursement of funds and a final report must be submitted. 

Matching funding

The applicant is not required to provide matching funding, but they must demonstrate that all project costs are accounted for.

Grant funds cannot be used for staffing costs, honoraria, or similar disbursements.
