Mayor Kennedy Stewart

Mayor Kennedy Stewart was elected in October 2018 to build a Vancouver that works for everyone.

Mayor Stewart ran for office with a plan to:

  • Build 85,000 units of housing over the next 10 years, with a focus on affordable rentals for households making less than $80,000 per year
  • Make it easier for first-time homebuyers to find a place to own
  • Support small businesses by keeping workers in Vancouver

Mayor Stewart has lived in Vancouver since 1989. He moved from Nova Scotia with only $100 and went on to serve as an MP (2011-2018), elected with Jack Layton's NDP.

He is a SFU policy professor, specializing in cities and housing and has a PhD from the London School of Economics.

Mayor Stewart is a renter and lives downtown with his wife Jeanette.
