EV charging extension cords on sidewalks

We recognize that not everyone has access to an off-street parking spot where they can charge an electric vehicle.

In order to support people in this position, homeowners and occupants (with landlord support) can now obtain a licence to charge their vehicle in front of their house using an extension cord.

How it works

The licence requires homeowners to:

The cord cover licence costs $5 per year.

If you are a landlord, you may obtain a licence on behalf of a tenant living at your property.

 Landlords are responsible for carrying homeowners’ insurance that covers any liability on the part of their tenant(s).

If you do not have one already, you will need to create an account in our online permitting database . You should receive your licence within five business days, via email.
