Commercial buildings

We’re phasing in energy and carbon reporting starting with existing large commercial buildings.

Large commercial buildings must report energy carbon data by June 1, 2024.

Review steps and report data

If you own or manage an existing large commercial building in Vancouver with a floor area equal to or greater than 9,290 square metres (100,000 square feet), you are required to:

  • Create your building’s profile on ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® and share it with us
  • File your completed report in our Building Performance Reporting System by June 1 each year to avoid a penalty

Starting January 2025, all commercial buildings greater than 4,645 square metres (50,000 square feet) will be required to report their energy and carbon data.
