Queers’ Vernacular (Slanguage) is a community-based public artwork by Vancouver artist Paige Gratland. It was commissioned as part of our artist-initiated program, which invites artists to propose their own public artworks and sites.
Developed through multi-year collaboration, the project explores language as a creative and cultural practice within 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities.
From a community-sourced process, a pocket-sized dictionary emerged with design by Ana Resende Studio. The book received a Gold Award in Design from the Clube da Criatividade de Portugal (CCP26) for Editorial & Publications – Book.
The book is available to borrow through the Vancouver Public Library.
