The Stanley Park entrance just 2 years after the park's official opening
Stanley Park opened in 1888 when the city's population was only 6,065 and has evolved to become one of the great urban parks of the world. Today, there are more than 230 parks in the city but Stanley Park remains Vancouver’s evergreen heart.
There are 3 important and ongoing themes in the story of Stanley Park. The Vancouver Park Board and City of Vancouver work together to:
- Preserve and protect the ecology of Stanley Park
- Ensure the sustainability of Stanley Park
