Leave bus zones for buses

Note Any vehicles parked in a bus zone are subject to being ticketed and/or towed.

We have a zero-tolerance policy in our city if you park in a bus zone. Unauthorized vehicles in bus zones are not just an inconvenience to bus drivers, they are also a potential hazard to pedestrians and motorists.

Effects of parking in a bus zone

When you leave your vehicle in a bus zone for a quick errand (even if it only takes 2 minutes):

• You may block the view of other drivers as transit users are forced to board or exit the bus on the roadway instead of the curbside.
• You make it harder for people using wheelchairs, strollers or those with other physical limitations as they may not be able to board or exit the bus.
• You block the flow of traffic as the bus is forced to load or unload passengers on the roadway.
• You force the bus to pull into a small portion of the bus zone resulting in the bus overhanging into a crosswalk or intersection. This pushes other pedestrians out of the crosswalk and creates visibility challenges for motorists.
• You force the bus driver to maneuver into a small section of the bus zone delaying the bus and adding to travel time.
• You cause difficulty for transit users boarding and exiting the bus as a bus with a blocked pull-out space may create door conflicts with poles, trees, driveways and/or other street furniture.

You are required to follow parking regulations at all times.

When near a bus zone (even if there isn’t a sign), you must park a minimum of:

• 36 metres away from the approach side of the bus stop sign.
• 8 metres away from the departure side of the bus stop sign.
